"A long time ago, I helped a band of heroes save the world. It wasn't until many years later that I realized what it cost me."
The Blade of Winds is an ancient weapon, one of a pair of soul-bound weapons once wielded by Celesti, goddess of winds and storms. During the Great Cataclysm, as the gods slew each other in prophesied carnage, the maiden of air struck down her hated foe, the god of tyranny, and was slain in turn. But unlike the others, whose bodies fell to ground and poisoned the earth with foul miasma, Celesti's essence dispersed into the sky, where it rejoined the elemental chaos and gave spark to the Aether, from which all modern aethertech devices draw their power.
The Blade of Skies – the right hand of the goddess that struck down her foes with divine lightning – was shattered by the god of tyranny in their final battle and proved to be her eventual downfall, as the loss of half her power rendered her vulnerable. The Blade of Winds, however, remained behind and was taken away to safety by her few remaining faithful.
During the Battle of New Telmor in the waning hours of the War of the Black Hand, the heroes of the Erathian coalition forces faced down an enemy with the power to destroy all of Pirdia: the resurrected Void Dragon, a primordial destroyer cast down eons ago by the gods of old. With those gods long dead, there would be nothing strong enough to keep the Void in check should he reach full power and eventually he would devour all of creation and render all that they held dear into nothing.
Isabel was a noble, a sky-captain, and an adventurer, a woman of words whose strength was in that of her crew and her people. Neither a woman of faith nor a powerful mage, she was ill-prepared to fight against something of such immense arcane power. With time running out, she made her choice and turned to her last, desperate option: she took up the Blade of Winds from Zephyr, the goddess reborn, and charged head-long at the Dragon as the Void closed in around her. With divine magic coursing through her, she and her allies struck at the Dragon's heart... and destroyed it forever.
Eventually, the world was made right again and Isabel returned home to Erathia a hero, eventually marrying Prince Marius and retiring to raise her royal twins, Eron and Marie. But there are some things that mortal men were never meant to wield, and power always has its price... a price that would haunt her for the rest of her life.
